Don’t Come Empty Handed
As a kid, my mom and her friends would share home cooked food with each other in little tubs.
Once my mom had finished the food, she would cook something of her own and then return the tub full to the brim.
This went on for years.
One day I asked her why she did that.
She said, "This is what we do in our culture. It's rude to just take and never give back."
Over time, I saw this as another one of love's flavours.
It’s safe to say, I do my best to never turn up anywhere empty handed and return the love.
I see this play out when I connect students to industry.
At the end of a session, the last thing I want to hear after asking, "Any questions?" is silence.
I always encourage students not to come empty handed. Not with food, but with questions, comments, enthusiasm, ideas and curiosity.
Industry guests put so much effort into preparing for the student sessions.
It's so important to me that students show a little love and appreciation, but more importantly, carry that lesson of generosity into every room they enter in the future.
