R. L. Smith: Butter Mouse
Mr Smith always told another story in assembly about a little mouse who fell into a jar of milk.
Try as he might, he couldn’t get out.
The mouse panicked and kicked his little legs as hard as he could, hoping to jump out.
Still no luck.
He kept kicking.
Kicking.
And kicking.
It felt like nothing was changing.
Just as he was about to give up, he felt something solid beneath his feet.
All that kicking had turned the milk into butter.
He climbed onto it…
…and jumped out of the jar.
For reasons I can’t explain, that story has stayed with me.
